Inspired by plants and grasses, field shapes and boundary lines, Keith Rand specialises in elegant wooden sculptures that have an inherent life of their own. Working with natural timbers and traditional, bladed hand tools Keith creates slender tensile shapes, developing relationships between edges and spaces, whilst ensuring that each surface becomes alive with tooled markings.
In October, Keith was invited to exhibit a body of work entitled Into the Light inside Winchester Cathedral, and Joe was commissioned to photograph this solo exhibition. Along with an introduction by Richard Cork and an afterword by Canon Roland Riem, Joe’s photos formed the based of Keith’s exhibition catalogue.
Following his solo exhibition, Keith took part in The Figure in the Landscape – a joint exhibition at The Gallery in The Winchester Discovery Centre. Curated by Rachel Bebb, the exhibition brought together a variety of sculptors and ceramic artists. Again, Joe was asked to provide photographs of Keith’s work for the exhibition catalogue.
